Small Gray Rabbit - a true story

Atida Shapiro

How are we disposed to such essences as rabbits? Certainly, haughtily. Who are they? They are simply foolish and edible animals... However, I was a witness and a participant of the amazing fate of one small, gray rabbit. All obviously know that way of the physician; particularly the surgeon begins from making anatomical preparations of small animals such as a white mouse, frogs and rabbits. Such fate was prepared for our hero. The students attached him to the special table, took in hands scalpels...but suddenly he, the little and defenseless rabbit, had done the impossible. He broke away from clogs, jumped down from the table and ran away.

The adult boys, certainly, caught him. But they treated him with respect and presented him life. The students asked me - maybe I'll take the rabbit to my home? I agreed. I bought a hutch and took the rabbit to the country kindergarten.

The children were happy. The rabbit in his hutch was taken out in the garden. Children gave to him herbs, cabbage and carrots. But remaining alive wasn't all for him. He needed freedom....He moved apart the rods of the hutch and jumped out. The rabbit ate grass and sunned. After that he returned to his hutch- house. Through several days, the hutch didn't close. He allowed the children to take him in their hands.

The children knew his history. And I hope that none of them forget about this story...And in adult life don't be offensive to the small and defenseless
