I was born and grew up in a small village called
Kontum Konam, South Viet Nam. My family came to America five
years
ago in August, 2000 and I was 18 years old by that time.
When we first arrived, we stayed at my uncle's house
in Newton about a week. He was the one that sponsored my family.
And after that we moved to Worcester. We have been living
here since then. I didn't go to high school because I
was
too old, so I went
to Lutheran Community Services for my English class that's
when I started to learn my second language. At first
I had difficult time to communicate with people around me.
Because I did not understand English very much, but after
a few months my English got better and I started to talk
in class. After a year studied English, I went to job
corps where I was trying to get my GED and my vocation. I was
there about one years and three months. I took Business
Clerical class and I completed after five months but
I
didn't get my GED. Because of family issues I couldn't
stay there anymore. So I decided to drop out and get
a full time job. I worked at a warehouse and some other places
in the past three years. I worked so hard and a lot hours
but I've never had a good pay check. I was tired of my
job and realized that I needed to go back to school and
do something different. So now I am taking a GED class
at QCC because I know it's a good start for me. I'll
have
lots opportunity for my education. With the help of
my teachers and myself studying hard, I know I'll get my
GED someday soon. Then I could go to college to study
career that I want and I'm sure I'll have a good job when I'm
graduate and that would change my life completely.
