One Student's Opinion of the ESL 4 Program

Fr. Andreas Markopoulos

Dear Readers,

The title which I wrote is clearly subjective and it only expresses my own opinion as to the aim and usefulness of this program.

Via this subject you give me the possibility, and the occasion to stress the importance and the significance of the program. Because I believe that good things should also be heard and awarded. My name is Fr Andreas Markopoulos., I came from Greece, and moved here with my family in the year 1998. Our life here was not easy and the biggest problem that we faced was the "linguistic problem" as a necessary means of communication. Of course each beginning is difficult which every person has experienced.

This reason, therefore, led me to watch for courses in English, in order to resolve the linguistic problem for my family socially.

This program honors this country, honors our state, honors the teaching system, honors the instructors and honors the school. This means, that this country bestowed love on those immigrants, knowing their economic needs as newly arrived residents in a new country. Thus the immigrants being helped from the state begin to learn the language better, to find better work. Possibly they had qualifications, but because of their linguistic problem, their qualifications were being downgraded. Generally they became beneficial citizens in this country. According to all of this above, the aim of this program is clearly to aid the smooth rehabilitation of immigrants as active members of this society and simultaneously to turn out to be useful not only to themselves but also for society as a whole. I want to congratulate the state, and mainly the instructors and the teaching system at Q.C.C. for this their efforts which result in the greatest success due to the love and the hard work of the teachers. I say this from my own experience where in a very small amount of time, hardly 4 months, I have already begun to use better English and to adapt better in my work and in my personal life.

I wish this program to continue the same way and to continue having such instructors with the support of the state.
