My name is Edgar Cordova. I am from Peru.
In June 2001 I travelled with my family to Machu Piccu. Machu
Picchu is a city built on the slopes of an Andean Mountain near
Cuzco, Peru. It was amazing to be walking on the exact place
my Incan ancestors walked more than 500 years ago. I saw a magnificent
city that was built on top of a mountain 8,000 feet above the
Urubamba River. How could they build this city? How did they
move these big stones? We saw and learned many things. I saw
a room where an Inca King took his bath. Six women helped him
take his bath. Pretty good, huh?
The Inca people loved and respected their kings. We learned
about one king who was very tall compared to other Incas, and
he wore clothes made of gold.
We saw another room where they did operations on the head. We
saw how they did this. It is amazing that they had this skill.
When they needed to communicate with someone at a distance they
used an echo system. They would go to the higher mountain and
shout the message. This sound would echo for miles and another
person who heard this would shout to another. This is how they
would communicate long distances.
We heard one story about a king who loved fish. This king wanted
fish from salt water, so the Inca people created secret routes
through the mountains to get to Lima on the coast to get fish
for their king.
The place is truly a wonder. So many interesting, amazing things.
If you ever have a chance, please visit Macchu Picchu. You have
to be in good health, because it is 8,000 feet above sea level.
It is not easy to breathe because the air is so thin. Also, try
to go in the summer when the weather is warm and clear.
Our visit to Machu Picchu was incredible. I will never forget
it. When I was in the city there seemed to be a powerful feeling
that came over me.... I can't put it in words. It was almost
magical.
